Truisms: A Bad Apple

"A bad apple can ruin an entire barrel of fruit."

This is a metaphor for how corruption spreads.

Of course corruption does not spread quickly within a barrel of fruit.

And it only spreads if the fruit is left undisturbed and uninspected.

Therefore, the assertion that a rotten apple spoils the barrel is more in indictment of the grocer than the apples.
