Paul Harvey morphs into Ron DeSantis
Paul Harvey's rather blasphemous speech about "God made a farmer" morphed into a Ron DeSantis commercial about God making Ron DeSantis a "protector" and "fighter".
In Harvey's speech, he says, "on the eighth day, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, 'I need a caretaker,' so God made a farmer." Harvey then goes on to describe the hard work and life of a farmer.
However, Harvey seems to have forgotten what the Bible says in the book of Genesis. First, God made a "garden" called Eden, and put man, Adam, into it. So it seems, God first made Adam into a gardener, not a farmer (Genesis, 2:15). But then God said that because Adam had eaten of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil,
"17 ... cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
"18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
"19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return." Genesis 3:17-19.
Which pretty much describes what Harvey says about the life of a farmer.
In other words, God decreed Adam's fate to be a farmer after Adam had disobeyed God and was driven out of the garden of Eden. The farmer's fate, then, is a constant reminder of man's disobedience of God.
